Case studies

Three real examples of how the right questions made the difference.

Successful procurement is not simply about finding a supplier or securing the lowest price. It depends on confirming the right product, the real lead time and the exact configuration before an order is placed. Each case follows the same four steps.

What the client provided→What HPI did→What was established→Client outcome

The preferred manufacturer was right. The requested model was not.

What the client provided

The client requested industrial lighting by manufacturer and model.

What HPI did

Because the client operates in environments where hazardous gases may be present, HPI asked whether the lighting would be installed in a hazardous location. The client confirmed that it would.

What was established

The manufacturer confirmed the requested model was not rated for hazardous areas. We asked which hazardous-area zone applied, and the manufacturer identified a model rated for it. We sent our client the datasheets, and our client made the final decision.

Client outcome

The client retained its preferred manufacturer and avoided ordering lighting that was unsuitable for the installation location.

The client needed an independent answer before planning its shutdown.

What the client provided

The client had been told that a made-to-order valve could be ready in eight weeks. The delivery date was critical to its shutdown schedule.

What HPI did

The client asked HPI to obtain an independent answer. We contacted the manufacturer directly and pursued a firm factory response.

What was established

The following week, the factory confirmed that the actual lead time was more than 20 weeks, not the eight weeks previously presented.

Client outcome

The client rescheduled its shutdown maintenance using the confirmed manufacturer lead time rather than relying on a delivery date that could not be met.

The part number did not tell the full story.

What the client provided

The client supplied a part number for a replacement item.

What HPI did

Before quoting, HPI requested the equipment nameplate and serial number instead of relying on the part number alone.

What was established

The manufacturer’s records showed that the original item had a special end-user configuration that was not shown by the supplied part number.

Client outcome

The client avoided ordering a standard item that would not have met the equipment’s requirements and could have created an operational or safety issue.
